Happiness is an emotional state and for the most part comes and goes. Also it is an emotional state which can be learned and refined. Often we make ourselves unhappy by replaying, in our mind, those things we consider distasteful.
When something happens that is painful, usually, it is over in a matter of moments. We all have a tendency to extend by talking about or replaying, different aspects of the painful event. While a certain amount of this is helpful- getting it out of our system- most of us do far too much of this.
We all need to recognize our patterns of negative thinking, wo, we can consciously make the decision to be happier. If we are aware of our ‘old demons’ and know how to disarm them, we can replace them with happier more tranquil states.
And it is only after we become masters of our psychological processes, that the spiritual awareness fully matures.
