I Want to Serve God

The heart of the believer is the sanctuary of God

And nothing but God is allowed access there.

I love and want to serve God.

What could possibly be off center with a statement and aspiration as lofty as this one?  Weren’t we born so we might one day serve God?

The traveler must keep in mind: the temporary removal of desire is one of the goals of the mystic Path.  This statement: “I love God and want to serve God is filled with individual longing and desire.”

First, the traveler may not have developed sufficiently to be able to serve or have the personal capabilities which are required for a specific task.

Second a desire or emotion no matter how lofty is still a desire and while strong emotional energy of this desire manifests, the organ of perception will not operate; and God’s Desire will not emerge.

Third while the ego or “I’ is present, the traveler may deceive him/herself into believing what they are doing is for God, and in reality- it is for self.

In service, the higher posture is to do something because it must be done, with only the recipient benefiting and God Manifesting. While individual desire is present, this is not possible.

What God Wants is burning: burning love, service with absence of self.

Dear Friend,

Your heart is a polished mirror. You must wipe it clean of the veil of dust that has gathered upon it, because it is destined to reflect the light of divine secrets.
